This area is very well known for game fishing on both lochs and rivers with many choices on where to spend the day. Permits are required at all times, mostly moderately priced and are available for purchase locally. Please note that permit charges may vary from those shown here and should be checked via the contact details.
There are three river systems running through our area, the Tay, Earn and Forth. The trout season in Scotland is from 15th March to 6th October and the salmon season on the Tay from 15th January to 15th October and the Earn and Forth from 1st February to 31st October.
Ghillie services are available locally and can be sourced from permit issue points. Coarse angling is concentrated within the Trossachs but there is some fishing on Loch Tay and the rivers Dochart and Lochay, by Killin. Other than coarse fishing, rods must be hand held and not propped on a stick or rest for that would be a set line and contravenes the Scottish Game Fishing Laws. Only one rod may be used for each permit paid for. Fishing for or taking salmon or sea trout is prohibited on Sunday. This guide is set out using the three river systems and the fishing information is listed from the highest point of the system as it runs through our area. 'A child casts a fly And suddenly we hear a cry, a fish, a fish; Eventually the fish is beat And lies there at its captor’s feet Gentle hands hold the prey And a photoflash records the day; Then back into the water with silver gleam Goes a fish for the future, a fish for the stream; A child looks up with a smile And then I know it’s been worthwhile.'
