Local Activities around Loch Earn Scotland
|
|
We are surrounded by hills for walking (bag a Munroe or two) and are on the National cycling network.
A watersport centre on Loch Earn caters for 'The waterbabies' with skiing and jetsking. The Loch is restocked every year and boats are on hire for fishing. We also have some large estates round us for pheasant shooting and deer stalking. There is a charming 9-hole golf course at the other side of Loch Earn and all the famous golf courses are within reach.
Walking and Cycling The area around Lochearn House is a haven for those who enjoy walking or hill walking. The Callander - Killin cycleway/walkway can be accessed within 2 minutes of the house for the scenic walk up the old rail track-bed which is perched high on the west side of Glen Ogle and returning by the old 'Wade's road' at the bottom of the glen. The same route can be followed south to Strathyre and beyond to Callander. For the hill walker, some of the best known mountains of the Southern Highlands are either within walking distance or 20 -30 minutes by car for those further away. Ben Vorlich (985m) Stuc a'Chroin (975m) Ben More (1174m) Stobinian (1165m) Ben Lawers (1214m) Ben Ledi (879m) Beinn Ghlas (1103m)The Lochearn Shears ( The Scottish Blackface Shearing Championships) are on the 28th and 29th June.
Lochearnhead Shears was established in 1993, and over the years it has become one of the larger sheep shearing competitions in the United Kingdom. Sheep shearers from all over the World compete to take home the “Scottish Blackface Shearing Champion” title. Blackface sheep are predominant in this area and require extra skills from the competitors to overcome their flighty nature and the coarser wool of this mountain breed.
